Antique laces

Antique laces
From local estate sales to foreign flea markets, lace fascinates with its history, complexity and beauty. The fine handwork of unknown women, whose patterns and decorative motifs were created one thread at a time generations ago is often relegated to the bottom of an old scrap basket, at best.
My goal is to bring the remnants of a tattered collar, delicate hankerchief or doily back to life as an intriguing jewelry object. Select cuttings of vintage textiles are brought to your attention under glass and silver, and in this way I hope to honor the intimate and skillful work of those women.
To create each tile, antique lace and vintage textiles are soldered between sheets of art glass, creating a dynamic, transparent piece of jewelry which can be subtle or bold on the wearer depending on what it is worn against. These textiles of bobbin lace, crochet, needle-run embroidery, drawnwork and more were originally created as domestic and personal accessories, so they are generally found in small, often partial pieces. For this reason each finished piece is very limited edition or one-of-a-kind.
